Flight Arrangements

If you will be studying at an SU Abroad center in Beijing, Florence, Hong Kong, London, Madrid or Strasbourg, France you must decide whether you will fly with the group through Advantage Travel or make your own arrangements. Information on both options follows.

Group Travel to SU Abroad Centers offered through Advantage Travel

What are the advantages of group travel? If you travel with the group, you should meet us at the appropriate airport (normally either JFK or Newark Airport) at least 3-4 hours before the flight is scheduled to depart. You will get a chance to meet our staff and other students in the program. Once you have met the group, we take over the arrangements, including arrival and transportation to your orientation or field seminar site.

If you want to fly overseas early, or if you find it inconvenient participate in the group, you may prefer to make your own travel arrangements. Please see the section on independent travel for more information.

Connecting Flights for Group Travel

If you are planning to fly to New York or another location to meet the group, you should schedule your connecting flight as early as possible on the day of departure, or even the day before, so you do not risk missing the group flight. If you have trouble scheduling a connecting flight early enough to make the check-in and it will be a close call to meet the flight, let Advantage Travel staff know your connecting airline and flight number in advance so they can track your progress.

Advantage Travel staff is available when the flights are scheduled to leave. If you experience delays or cancellations, phone Advantage Travel at 315/471-2222.

Independent Travel to SU Abroad Centers

If you travel independently, you are responsible for your own transportation from your home to our centers overseas. This includes making all connecting arrangements between airport, bus, or train.

If you travel independently, you must report to our center overseas on the same date the group is scheduled to arrive. If you cannot report on time, you must request permission from us for late arrival. You will be sent a special memo with information on when and where to meet our group overseas.

Special Needs

After you have received your flight confirmation, you should contact the airline directly for special meals and other in-flight services you may require, such as refrigeration of medication, special seating or real-time captioning.
