Check below for specific information on packing for orientation at individual centers:
Beijing:
Pack one bag with the clothing and items you will need for your two-week field seminar. Because of limited space on buses and trains, this bag should be as small as possible. Your other luggage and computer if you have it will be stored in Hong Kong until the end of the seminar. Spring semester: Beijing is extremely cold during the winter months. You should pack very warm clothing for the January field seminar.
Florence:
You should pack just what you will need for the two-day orientation in a small suitcase or carry-on. You will travel by bus from Milan or Rome to Florence, and the orientation hotels are often located in the historic sections of the city, where streets may be too narrow for the buses to fit. You should expect to carry your suitcase for a block or two. Your other luggage and computer if you have it will be stored at the Florence Center during orientation.
Hong Kong:
Pack one bag with the clothing and items you will need for your two-week field seminar. Because of limited space on buses and trains, this bag should be as small as possible. Your other luggage and computer if you have it will be stored in Hong Kong until the end of the seminar.
London:
Pack everything you will need for the first week of the program in one bag. Your second bag will be put in storage until you move into your apartment.
Madrid:
Your program begins with a two-week field seminar, so pack everything you will need for the seminar in one suitcase. Your seminar suitcase will have to fit in the luggage compartment of a bus, so it should be of moderate size and weight. Your other luggage and your computer if you have it will be sent by truck to Madrid and stored safely until you are ready to move in with your hosts.
Strasbourg, France:
Pack everything you will need for the nine-day field seminar in one bag. Your other bags and computer if you have it will be sent by truck to Strasbourg. Since you will be traveling by bus, we recommend that your orientation/seminar suitcase be of moderate size and weight.
