Apply for you Visa and Passport Now!

As you likely already know, lead times for the award of passports and visa have expanded greatly. Students who do not allow sufficient time for their paperwork to be processed run the very real risk of staying home. Students, parents, and guardians must understand that although SU Abroad is available to help with applications, we have no control over the award of these government-issued documents.

U.S. Passports

If you don't have a passport already, you should apply for one now. The passport agency is experiencing long delays with passport processing so it is important that you apply early!

If possible, please use the expedited service when you apply for your passport. For full information on passports and how to apply, please look at the National Passport Agency website.

Also, for those of you who already have a passport, please make sure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your program ends. If it is not, you should renew your passport now. Visas for some countries cannot be issued if your passport expires within 6 months of the end date of your program.

Visas

A visa is an official document issued by the country you wish to visit. It indicates under what condition (student or tourist, for example) you will be allowed to enter. Lead times vary by country.
